Adele Hetherington
Graffiti Art, Painting
Adele Hetherington (b. 1964) is an artist and painter currently pursuing her Bachelor of Arts (Fine Arts) at the LASALLE College where she is involved in an array of fine art disciplines. She describes her style of painting as fun and childlike yet sophisticated and delicate at times and has exhibited at the Holdsworth Studio in 2005 and the Substation in 2008, amongst others. Adele uses art as a means of playing with different styles and colours. Tellingly perhaps, she has written a dissertation on Graffiti which stems from her fascination with its form and the message it conveys.

Adele is inspired by the passage of time, the current news and its ridiculous outcomes. As an artist, her paintings are influenced by travel and as such, are filled with colour and tell the story of the day across the world; be it the Mr Madoff case or global warming - all of which reflect her fascination with the human condition and blindness with which lives are conducted with. At the same time however, she avoids activism in her works but instead aims to convey the feeling that these subjects bring up. Her paintings reflect her passion and instant coming to the canvas. The influence of travel, for example, has allowed Adele to enjoy the different styles of graffiti. The knowledge that graffiti works may well be painted over the very next day does not seem to stop these artists and it is a notion she can relate to.
