Biography

Nur Azam began his journey into the world of Visual Arts as a self-taught illustrator and painter. Born in 1985, his interests in drawings and visual representation dawned from his early childhood days. In 2001, he started doing paintings with oils and acrylics as his primary medium, depicting landscapes and everyday objects, manipulating his subjects as props to depict human social mechanics and issues. Constantly learning and employing new techniques, he has since discovered a deeper interest in the notion of representation in aspects of visuals and technicality. During his course of study in Lasalle College of the Arts, his works were selected several times for exhibitions such as Kriyaworks which featured collaborative works of 9 selected students from Fine Arts and Interactive Arts Faculty and Groundwork V in his Freshman year. In both shows, his emphasis of experimentation and balanced marriage of both process and outcome are apparent as it is recognized by the institution. As seen in his Motion series, Azam currently delves in process-based images, demonstrating his experimentative and and curious nature.
