Jacquelyn Soo (b.1981) holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons) and a Diploma in Fine Art (Sculpture) from LASALLE College of the Arts.

Jacquelyn is a performance/installation artist and musician.

Her first solo show was debuted in 2007 at Your Mother Gallery showing paintings and drawings of strangers' dreams.


As a musician, she has represented Singapore overseas as an Indonesian Gamelan Musician with the gamelan ensemble, Gamelan Asmaradana. Late 2007, Soo appeared on Arts Central, Frequency of the City reality programme about Singaporean musicians collecting sounds and noises from the street and mixing into an innovative music TV series.

Her first residency at Jatiwangi-Artist-in-Residency Programme in July 2010, involved art community installation and workshops with children and villagers in Jatiwangi, Bandung.

She was invited to New York in late 2011 for Artinoddplaces, a performance festival celebrating art in public spaces. Soo performed 'Circling Square' at Union Square Park.

Besides art & music, Soo launched a self-published book of poems and drawings titled 'Signs of Psyche' in late 2010 as searching for other means to expand her art practice.

Artist Statement

The concern in my art practice is engaging ways with the audience on the lost of the identity & cultural complexities. I exploring traditions, societies & myths.

I have been collecting stories of people and their lives, their land, their food, their taste and their history. In an on-going installation/ video/sound/photography and performance art project, I discuss this issue through the politics/movement of space and history in specific areas in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, New York.

The unceasing development and redevelopment and alterations to our geographical landscape and the effects on the social, psychological and cultural aspects are of concern to me. I view that we are often closed in to our culture barrier and culture blindness is a subject that has to be dealt with in our reach to others and in ourselves. This on-going project is a drawing of a visual journey of the cityscape in the personal memory of the individual. I hope to find untouched spaces and places of special memory or attachment to people.
