Born in Singapore on 1988, Terry Wee graduated with a Diploma of Fine Arts from NAFA (Nanyang
Academy of Fine Arts). He is currently pursuing his BA(Hons) Fine Arts at Lasalle College of the Arts. Terry
practices painting, installation art as well as performance art.
His interest in art deals mainly with modern day contexts of spirituality; The theme Spirituality in his research
talks about the human sensation as well as the tangible feeling of space.
Recently, Terry has been particularly interested in the political influence between government, religion and
landscape. As such, he goes about using them as his source of inspiration. His latest work and research with the
use of newspaper took a sharp turn whilst working with the genre of performance art. Which later made him
realise the dark reason behind his abstract painting, for it was initially pointing towards art being spiritual in
terms of the human sensation and of its connection with reality. It is, also a language of suppression in response
to the strict and oftentimes overly sensitive society.
Terry is a two time award winner from the Nanyang fine Art Award in 2007 (highly commended) award
and 2009 (first prize). He does shows locally and has also exhibited abroad, in countries like Indonesia and
Philippines, and currently he is working, studying and based in Singapore.
