Clifford Loh
Photography
Clifford Loh is an aspiring fashion photographer who is also versatile in other forms of art-making, not the least of it includes mixed-media installations, graphic design, and colour pencil. His artworks are mainly inspired by the attitudes of youths around him. He is motivated to address the lack of civic-mindedness in youths today, and has addressed their apathy about embracing changes in relation to the environment in his Cambridge A-Levels Coursework for Art.

More recently, Clifford has delved into the realm of fashion and beauty. Using photography as his main medium, he portrays his surroundings in an acute manner and photographs the beauty of ordinary beings.

Clifology is his pseudonym and he hopes to spend time in places like NYC, Paris, Greece and Amsterdam to immerse himself in the arts, fashion and culture. He loves good movies, sophisticated electronic music and inspired people.

My coursework wishes to instigate active change regarding the environment today. Born in a result-driven society in Singapore, environmental conservation is easily preceded by selfish pursuits of material goods and carnal desires. What burdens me the most is teenagers’ apathy towards their society especially where issues of pollution are concerned. I was inspired by movies, such as Slumdog Millionaire and The Inconvenient Truth, that urge one to change and re-examine our perspectives on life. Created by visionary figures, these movies carry distinct moral messages that endure through time and space.

Other artists who have given me ideas to develop this body of works are Dede Eri Supria, On Kawara and Jenny Holzer. It is the golden nugget of wisdom to be able to point out the flaws of the human condition, and to have the moral authority to demand that society should change its ways — it is the moral courage of these artists that greatly motivates me. Using art as my creative medium of expression, I highlight the ignorance of human beings and make an indictment on how the society obstinately creates pollution on a daily basis.
