Johannah Fong
Photography
A self-proclaimed romantic, Johannah Fong’s work deals mostly with the delicate and capricious nature of memory and identity. She believes in depicting contemporary issues of our present world and existence in ways that would encourage creativity and nostalgia. With a passion for experimental photography and alternative processes, Johannah aims to go beyond the boundaries of straight photography and explore the amalgamation of various mediums to create art that is truthful, emotive and heartfelt.
Since her graduation from the School of Art, Design and Media in Nanyang Technological University, she has exhibited Standstill and Leaf Prints in 5footway.atelier and NTU Museum respectively. Her portfolio has also been presented in Singapore and the UK.

Standstill is a photographic series that describes and focuses on three major aspects: the photographic technique of the multiple exposure in relation to the idea of chaos in reminiscence, the lapse in time when revisiting familiar memories, and the human condition when faced with a lack of full control over what happens in the camera and in destiny.
Inspired by a recent separation, this project represents a personal reflection on a past relationship, where the prevalent existence of polarities in spiritual beliefs and personalities complicated what could have been a simple romance, and eventually brought about its end. Forced by circumstances to become strangers overnight, the aftermath of emotions has been translated into imagery by implementing the technique of multiple exposure within the film camera.
In the course of creating this work, I have examined the intricate relation between photography and memory, the interplay and juxtaposition of symbols when placed and presented on a single plane, and have also created meaningful imagery in an abstract and poetic way.
